Who we are
Kindling by Shawna LLC is a human-centered leadership company based in Ventura, California. We operate the website kindlingbyshawna.com and run in-person events, workshops, and programmes. You can reach us at hello@kindlingbyshawna.com.
What we collect
We collect only what is necessary to provide our services:
- Account information — your email address, and optionally a display name and short bio. You provide this when you create an account or edit your profile.
- Authentication credentials — sign-in link tokens and device passkeys (WebAuthn). We never store passwords.
- Event registrations — which events you registered for, registration status, and payment status. Payment processing is handled by Stripe; we do not store card details.
- Payment records — for paid events, Stripe provides a payment intent ID and confirmation. We retain this for financial and tax compliance.
- Analytics — we use a self-hosted Umami instance (no cookies, no cross-site tracking). It records page views and referrers but never links them to individual users.
How we use it
- To let you sign in and manage your account
- To confirm your event registrations and send you event details
- To process payments and issue refunds where applicable
- To understand how our website is used (aggregate analytics only)
We do not sell your data. We do not send marketing email without your consent.
Third-party services
- Stripe — payment processing. Stripe's privacy policy applies to card data. We receive confirmation tokens only.
- Mailcow / Nodemailer — transactional email (sign-in links, event confirmations) via our self-hosted mail server at mail.planemessage.com.
- Umami Analytics — self-hosted, GDPR-compliant, cookieless analytics. No data leaves our infrastructure.
Your rights
You can:
- Access your data — sign in to view your profile and registrations at any time.
- Update your data — edit your name and bio in your profile.
- Delete your account — use the delete account page. Your name, email, and profile are permanently removed.
- Data retention exception — event registration and payment records are financial records required by law (California and federal tax rules). We retain these for up to 7 years with your personal identifiers removed. This is a legitimate interest override to the right of erasure under applicable law.

Security
We use TLS in transit, hashed session tokens, and passwordless authentication (sign-in links and passkeys). Our database is hosted on a private server not accessible from the public internet. No system is perfectly secure; if you discover a vulnerability please email us directly.
Changes to this policy
We will update the "last updated" date at the top of this page when we make material changes. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance. For significant changes we will notify registered users by email.
